Goa Mesari Bar Uluwatu: An Affordable Beach Day in Bali

If you’re looking for one of those laid-back Uluwatu beach spots that still feels like a bit of a secret, Goa Mesari Bar is worth adding to your list (or the The Warung Beach Club Pantai Melasti next door).

This isn’t your typical big-name Bali beach club. This is locally owned. Think simple beach beds, affordable food and drinks, incredible water and a beautiful little stretch of coastline tucked beneath the cliffs around Melasti.

I typically arrive around 10am, there are plenty of sun beds available, they are typically all gone by 1pm and you just need to wait for someone to leave, the bar/bean bag area is just as nice to settle into while you wait. Sun bed’s as I write this article are 100,000, + 40,000 for a towel. The wifi only reaches about half way down the row of sun beds if you need to stay connected.

If you are bringing kids: the best shell hunting beach is far right, past Sundays Beach Club, at low tide you can walk around the cliff area to your own private beach area.

The biggest thing to know? Getting there — and getting home — requires a little planning.

📍 How to Find Goa Mesari Bar

Goa Mesari can be surprisingly tricky to find, and you don’t want your driver automatically taking you to the main Melasti Beach entrance.

Use the photo provided below above as your reference.

When you reach the turn:

➡️ YELLOW ARROW = GO RIGHT

This is the direction you want for Goa Mesari Bar.

⬅️ PINK ARROW = GOING LEFT WRONG WAY

If your driver goes this way, they are heading towards the main Melasti Beach entrance. This is NOT where you want to go.

➡️ ORANGE ARROW = FOLLOW TO THE END

Once you turn right, keep travelling as far down the road as you possibly can.

Eventually, you’ll see a very small sign for Goa Mesari Bar. It is easy to miss, so keep an eye out. From there, follow the steps down towards the beach and you’ll find the bar tucked away below.

⚠️ VERY IMPORTANT: Getting Home

Do not rely on being able to open Grab or Gojek and order a car when you’re ready to leave.

Phone service in this area is extremely limited.

You may have some reception around Goa Mesari itself, but once you walk away from the bar you can quickly lose service. Your driver may also lose reception as they enter the Melasti Beach area.

For that reason, I strongly recommend pre-arranging your return transport and agreeing on a specific pickup time before you arrive.

Your other option is to use one of the local taxis available in the area. In my experience, these can cost around IDR 100,000 more than pre-arranging your transport, so factor that into your day but they are coming and going often so this is a convenient option. Lastly, the traffic starts to build so if you are visiting from outside Uluwatu I would leave by 3pm or your trip home could take 2x the time.

Screenshot your directions and important information before you go rather than relying on having internet access once you’re there.

🌊 Check the Tide Before You Go

This is also one beach where checking the tide chart beforehand really matters.

The beach changes considerably between high and low tide.

If you can, I recommend visiting around mid-tide, when you can enjoy the beach and water without experiencing either extreme.

Remember that tide times change every day, so don’t rely on the tide being the same as it was in someone else’s Reel or photos.

Where to Stay Near Goa Mesari Bar: 3 Options

These are three stays worth comparing around Melasti Beach and the wider southern Bukit. Check the driving route: clifftop properties aren’t necessarily walkable to the beach.

  • Umana Bali, LXR Hotels & Resorts — luxury: Private-pool villas on the cliffs. See rooms and rates.
  • Melasti Dream Residence — private villa: A pool villa near Melasti Beach. See rooms and rates.
  • Puri Pandawa Resort — value: A resort with a pool and restaurant farther towards Pandawa Beach; arrange transport. See rooms and rates.

Goa Mesari Bar FAQ

Is Goa Mesari Bar worth visiting?

Yes, if you want a relaxed, locally owned beach bar with affordable sunbeds rather than a high-end beach club. Plan around the tides.

Do you need to reserve a sunbed?

I normally arrive around 10 am when beds are easier to find; many are taken by early afternoon. Contact the venue directly if guaranteed seating matters.

How do you get home?

Arrange your return driver and agree on a precise pickup point in advance. Screenshot directions and save your driver’s number: mobile reception is patchy and you may need the bar’s limited Wi-Fi to message.

My Tip

This is exactly the kind of Bali spot where a little bit of preparation makes the difference between an amazing day and an unnecessarily stressful one.

Check the tide, screenshot the directions and organise your return car before you arrive.

Then all that’s left to do is grab a beach bed, order something cold and enjoy one of Uluwatu’s more relaxed beach days.

Want to see how much you can save on an Uluwatu beach day? Goa Mesari is proof you don’t need a luxury beach-club budget to enjoy this coastline. I’ve compared two similar days, at two very different price points, in One Uluwatu Day. Two Very Different Budgets. Read it next to plan where to save and where to splurge.
